Berg River Canoe Marathon

The Berg River Canoe Marathon is annual and very prestigious event that takes place just a few kilometres downstream from Pearl Valley Golf Estate. The multi-day event takes canoeists from Paarl to Velddrif covering a total distance of 241 km over 4 days.

This challenging event starts on July 16 at the Paarl Canoe Club. Spectators can watch the competitors from the banks there or alternatively go to one of the many bridges in Paarl and cheer the paddlers on from there. The stages of the race are as follows:

Day 1: Paarl to Zonquastdrift – 62.1 km

Day 2: Zonquastdrift to Bridgetown – 45.7 km

Day 3: Bridgetown to Zoutkloof: 74.8 km

Day 4: Zoutkloof to Velddrif: 58.7 km

The prize money for the winners of the Berg River Canoe Marathon is excellent with both female and male categories being awarded as well as 2 development categories for the U18 and U23 participants. Registration for the participants takes place at the Milnerton Canoe Club and will run from Sunday 13 July to Tuesday 15 July.
